Dragon's Maze on Cockatrice

Updated April 22nd, full set now available

Unfortunately, cockatrice had to take its official servers down a few months ago leaving many players unable to get their magic fix. Luckily, a few people have started to host servers since then to give us a place to play.

However, work has stopped on cockatrice and you can no longer update it with new cards, and Oracle, the program that use to update for you, no longer works. It is possible to update the card database manually however, and its really easy too!

To simply update your card database is simple. The card database is a file called cards.xml. Download cards.xml here. then go to where ever you installed cockatrice, normally C:/Program Files/Cockatrice, and copy and paste cards.xml there, replacing the old one. You may want to back up the old one first. Then open cockatrice and make sure Cocaktrice is using the right file by going to Cockatrice -> Settings, navigate to the General Tab, find the Path to Card Database option and make sure that is set to the file you just downloaded (c:/Program Files/Cockatrice/cards.xml)

If you want every card that has ever been printed, including Planechase planes and Un-sets, then you can download cards_all.xml. To use this, do exactly the same as you would for the previous file, but make the Path to Card Database set the cards_all.xml instead.

If  you don't want to replace your old cards.xml file, such as if you have your own custom sets in your cards.xml, you can download dgm_only.xml here. Open your cards.xml file, add

<set>
<name>DGM</name>
<longname>Dragon's Maze</longname>
</set>

to the sets, then copy and paste the contents of dgm_only.xml at the very end, just before

    </cards>
</cockatrice_carddatabase>

And thats it! Start up Cockatrice and you'll have all the new cards!

I will be updating this file daily when new spoilers get in, so keep checking back if you are eager to use cards now, or just wait until the full spoiler is out.

Let me know if anything is wrong or I am missing anything!

  3. Hey! Maze Behemoth is missing it's mana cost, and has it's type as "5G" in the xml file. Also, Varolz, the Scar-Striped as his colors on the same line instead of on successive lines, which bugs the search feature from inside Cockatrice.

    totally understandable given the work you're doing, but could that be patched for the next update?

    Thank you, you are SO AWESOME!

  4. Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts is also showing up as "Teysa, down Envoy of Ghosts" for some reason.

  5. At Helldagrif card you have typos (starting and ending tag do not match):
    < color > W < /colour >
    < color > B < /colour>
    < color > R < /colour >
    Anyway, thank you for this!

    1. You can't. That is where the file is to download. All you have to do is press download...

  7. Is there a reason that all tapping and mana costs in your XMLs use "X" instead of "{X}"? My older copies have everything in the latter format, and I've found that it really helps in searching in Cockatrice.

  8. My cards.xml was not under C:/Program Files/Cockatrice/cards.xml.

    I am using Windows 7. My path is C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Local\Cockatrice\Cockatrice.

    I hope that helps someone.

  11. I did exactly what you said but I still don't see Dragon's Maze in Cockatrice. I posted the dgm_only.xml file before /card /cockatrice_carddatabase and I copied and pasted the set criteria in a random area at the top of the cards.xml file (between Dark Ascension and Alara Reborn). At first when I tried to save over my cards.xml file I kept getting a pop-up that said "Access denied", but after I changed the security settings for the file I finally managed to save over it. But for some reason I still can't see DGM in the deck editor.
